Inspecting Your Vapor Canister

*EASY*

Inspect your vapor canister monthly as follows:

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground in a well-ventilated area with the engine OFF, the parking brake engaged, and the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or REVERSE (for manual). Raise the hood.
  2. Identify the vapor canister. It is usually located at one corner of the engine compartment, typically near the radiator; it will have a rubber hose leading to the engine.
  3. Examine the canister for external damage. If damage is present, have the canister replaced.
  4. Inspect the rubber vacuum hoses leading to the canister. They should not have any cracks, kinks, or deterioration. If a hose is damaged, have it replaced, but use a fuel resistant type. If the connections are loose, tighten them.
  5. Close the hood.
