Inspecting Your Vapor Canister
*EASY*
Inspect your vapor canister monthly as follows:
- Park the vehicle on level ground in a well-ventilated area with the engine OFF, the parking brake engaged, and the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or REVERSE (for manual). Raise the hood.
- Identify the vapor canister. It is usually located at one corner of the engine compartment, typically near the radiator; it will have a rubber hose leading to the engine.
- Examine the canister for external damage. If damage is present, have the canister replaced.
- Inspect the rubber vacuum hoses leading to the canister. They should not have any cracks, kinks, or deterioration. If a hose is damaged, have it replaced, but use a fuel resistant type. If the connections are loose, tighten them.
- Close the hood.
